The Isle of Skye has this quiet, moody energy that instantly makes you slow down. The landscapes feel big and dramatic, the light changes constantly, and everything around you feels a little more intense in the best possible way. It’s an incredible place for a Scotland elopement, especially if you’re drawn to raw nature, emotion, and space to simply be together.
This Isle of Skye elopement didn’t start in Scotland though. It actually began months earlier, during a secret proposal in Iceland.
We first met during a surprise engagement session in Iceland. From the very beginning, there was an instant connection. Everything felt easy. We laughed a lot, trusted the process, and let the moment unfold naturally. When they received their engagement photos, they were beyond happy. The kind of happy where you can feel how much the images mean to someone. That session wasn’t just about photos. It built trust, comfort, and a real bond.
So when they reached out again and told me they wanted to book me as their Scotland elopement photographer for their elopement on the Isle of Skye, I was genuinely so excited. Being invited to document another chapter of their story felt incredibly special.
They got ready at Skye Red Fox Retreat, a cozy and quiet place surrounded by nature. It was the perfect setting for slow, relaxed getting ready photos. No rush, no pressure. Just calm moments, details, and excitement building for what was ahead.
Their elopement day started early, with a beautiful sunrise. The island was quiet, the light was soft, and everything felt calm and unhurried. It was the perfect beginning to an Isle of Skye elopement. No rush, no pressure, just time to breathe, take it all in, and be present with each other. As the day unfolded, the weather stayed surprisingly great. We spent time exploring the Quiraing, one of the most iconic spots for an Isle of Skye elopement. Wide open views, winding roads, dramatic ridgelines, and that feeling of standing in the middle of something truly special. Choosing early hours for their ceremony at the Quiraing meant we avoided the crowds almost completely. The light was gentle, the landscape felt open and still, and it truly felt like the place belonged just to them. It was intimate, emotional, and incredibly peaceful.
After the ceremony, we headed back toward Skye Red Fox Retreat and spent some time nearby enjoying a quiet picnic. It was such a simple but meaningful part of the day. Sitting together, soaking in everything that had just happened, and letting the emotions settle.
This pause in the day made the elopement feel even more intentional. No rushing from one spot to another. Just space to be together before heading out again for the evening adventure.
The hike at the Old Man of Storr was the perfect way to end the day. We timed it for later in the evening, when most people had already left, and the trail felt almost empty. It gave us space, quiet, and that rare feeling of having one of Scotland’s most iconic places almost to ourselves. The hike itself is steady but so rewarding. As you climb higher, the views open up more and more, with the landscape stretching out below and the rock formations towering above. As the light dropped and clouds rolled in, everything turned darker and moodier. Wind picked up, the air felt heavier, and the whole place took on a dramatic, cinematic feel.
More Than Just One Elopement Day
From a secret proposal in Iceland to an Isle of Skye elopement in Scotland, this story is one I’ll always hold close. Being asked to document both moments is one of the most meaningful parts of my work as a destination and Scotland elopement photographer.
